HML New Building
Information
In 2001, the Library Board purchased 5
acres on what will be N. Maple St. Fundraising was conducted to pay
for the cost of the land. After paying off the land-loan, the Board
decided to wait on further plans for a new building until sometime in the
future.
Now we are pleased to announce that the library is in discussions with the 5/3 Bank in downtown Effingham to purchase their building and renovate it into a new library. In order to operate this new facility, the library must first pass an operating referendum on February 5, 2008. Please see our Referendum Information page for more details.
The City of Effingham has also signed an option to buy with the Library Board to purchase the 5 acres on N. Maple St. for the site of the future Sports Complex. That option comes due on March 24, 2008.
