October 2007
Dear Library Patron,
In 2008 the Helen Matthes Library will celebrate 125 years of service to the Effingham community. So how is the library doing? What does the physical reveal?
Amazingly, the Helen Matthes Library is thriving. In fact, incredible growth has occurred at the Helen Matthes Library in just 2007, including:
- 777 young people registered in the Summer Reading Program
- Over 800 participants for June library programs
- Interlibrary loan requests doubled from 2006
- Over 1,900 computer sessions each month
So why is Helen Matthes Library flourishing when we are forced like everyone else to each year “do more with less?”
You. Our patrons make the difference. They tell us what they need and want. We listen and respond. Our core values of Culture, Resources, and Technology engage our community and allow us to grow – yes, even thrive. With this great momentum and purposeful focus, we are poised to offer even more to the Effingham community.
You continue to play a vital role in this endeavor. We are offering you the opportunity to join our Books and Bytes Club, where 100% of your tax deductible donation goes towards the purchase of library materials and computer equipment. During the months of October and November, the names of Books and Bytes Club members will be displayed on our “wall of giving” at the library.
Help us reach our fundraising goal of $12,000 in 2007 by joining our Books and Bytes Club today! Thank you for supporting culture, resources, and technology for our community through the Helen Matthes Library.
Sincerely,

Jeff J. Weis Amanda E. Standerfer
